Cost of living

Hi! My husband and I are looking to move to Canada with our 1 year old boy. We are actually searching the internet trying to figure out what type of Visa should we apply for, where to live, cost of living and more... Looking at articles related to cost of living I always found a costing for "personal taxes" that usually range around $ 20.000. Does anyone know what is it about? What kind of taxes is this referring to?
