Not sure about the amount of money; but I think if you can arrange to get married in Canada, then return to Scotland while you wait, that would be a good idea. I stayed separated from my husband while we waited for things to process, and I am under the impression that it goes a bit faster that way. Others may have different opinions, though.

Good luck.

Hi there....

Depending on how you want to do things, you might not have to get a fiance VISA...

I married my partner in Scotland (he's Scottish, I'm Canadian) but since we intended to live in Canada, there was no need to get a fiance VISA....what we had o get was a marriage visit VISA...a fiance VISA is meant for someone who intends to get married in the UK, and live there in the hopes of gaining permanent residency. It's also very pricey.

If you want to get married in Scotland, but live in Canada, the best way to do that would be to get the marriage visit VISA...it's about $120 Canadian...you have to prove that you have enough money to support yourself while you are there as well as pay for the wedding (you have to show proof you intend to marry as well) and you also have to show proof you intend to return after the wedding (or the 6 month period you are allowed in the UK is up)

We did it that way - I went over and we were married in November...I returned in December alone and we submitted our outland application in January...my sponsorship has been approved and hopefully he will be in teh country to join me soon.

We found it better doing the outland application as he still has his job, and a few things he needed to tie up (like selling his flat). Now he can save the money he makes for when he gets to Canada.

You could do it inland as well, but I am told it takes longer, and I don't know much about the process.

Anyway if you have any questions about the visit VISA, feel free to contact me :)
