Hi April,
I did the following:
Opened an Canadian account via local branch of HSBC. Wire transferred half the required funds. Printed an updated statement the day before travel and the remaining amount was carried as cash.
Hope this helps. Goodluck.

Hi april10,

Apparently as a permanent resident moving to Canada there is no restriction on the amount of money you can bring in though if its over $10k it must be declared.

Peep the below link:

Take care.

hi msgchan,

my husband applied under FSW Category last 2004, got our Visa last June 2009.. to account, almost 6 years of waiting, but its worthy!

I think for now maybe it takes only 6-12 months of processing under the new system. good luck!

..ur welcome!

I think the best thing about it is that for your 1st (landing) trip you are not taxed on whatever amount you bring in. So you & your husband can step into Canada with style like proper lotto winners!

Take care.

Hi April,
Good to hear the info was helpful.
By the way Biggie,
If one has already landed and left and then comes back later for permanent settling, will the funds carried then will be taxed ?

hi carlproject,

we decided to land in Vancouver for the following reasons,

1. climate (not so cold compared to Alberta)
2. 4th livable city in the world
3. we have friends that will help us upon arrival

but,we are still open for some possibilities of settling to another provinces, it will depend then to the work opportunities of me and my husband. Thanks!
