How can I become a member of a Community Advisory Board?
If you're an active LoonLounge member and would like to play a larger role in the LoonLounge community, you can apply to be a member of a Community Advisory Board. From the Community pages, click on the Advisory Board link and complete the request form. You can also access the request form for the LoonLounge Community Advisory Board from the Canada & Immigration tab. - Blogs
How can I become a blog author?
Blogs are written by Community Experts, who have been approved as having a particular expertise by the Community Advisory Board. However, anyone can request to be a blog author and you can even submit a blog to the Advisory Board for review. To get to this request form, just follow the links from the Community pages. - Communities
What is a LoonLounge Community?
Communities group members by home country, occupation, location/destination in Canada, and by visa office. Members who are part of your communities share your affiliations and are good Contacts for you to make.
How do I join a Community?
Click on 'Edit' from your left side bar and go to the My Communities tab. - Contacts
How do I make Contacts?
LoonLounge helps you to meet and network with people who have an interest in Canadian immigration and settlement. You may find old friends on LoonLounge and you'll definitely meet new ones. You can request to be Contacts with anyone you like. Simply go to the member's Profile page and click 'Add as Contact' under the Profile Picture.
What happens when I add a Contact?
The user will appear as your Contact on your Profile page and will receive an email that you have requested them as a Contact. The next time they log in to LoonLounge, they will accept or dismiss your request. - Events
How do I create an event?
Anyone can request that an event be created through the request form in the events section of the Community pages. You can request an online chat event, where people from around the world can participate, or an offline event, in which you can organize a meeting place for people who are close by to you. LoonLounge Advisory Boards review event requests before they are posted. - Experts
How can I become a LoonLounge Expert?
If you're an active LoonLounge member with a particular area of expertise in the LoonLounge community, you can more easily contribute to blogs and create events by becoming a Community Expert. You can apply to be a LoonLounge Expert from the Community pages. Click on the Expert link and complete the request form. You can also access the Experts request form from the Canada & Immigration tab. - Forums
How do I begin a forum discussion?
That depends on what you'd like to discuss. If you want to post a topic on Canadian immigration, you can access the forum from the Canada & Immigration tab. If your discussion is for one of your Communities, you'll need to go into the Community page and navigate to the forum from there.
Note that you need to be a Community member in order to post to that community's discussion board.
Click on the Community in which you'd like to post and then click on 'New Topic'.
How do I search for forum topics?
You can narrow your search to look only in the forums by specifying in the drop-down menu at the top of your screen (Search only in Community Forum).
How do I reply to a forum post?
Select the topic to which you would like to reply and write your reply. Note that you need to be a member of the Community to post a reply. - Groups
How do I create a group?
From the Community pages, navigate to the Groups section and follow the instructions to create a new group. You will need to upload a picture when creating a new group.
How do I join a group?
Browse groups from the Groups section of the Community pages. Click on the group you wish to join and then on the 'Join this group' button. The group will be added to the Groups section of your Profile page.
How many groups can I join?
As many as you like! The more you join, the larger your community!
Who can I invite to my group?
You can invite any LoonLounge user to join a group that you're a member of.
How can I get a message to my group?
You can post a message on the group Comment board.
How do I delete a group?
You can only delete groups that you have created (that you are the administrator of). Click on the group and select the Administration link. Click 'Delete this Group' to delete the group permanently.
How do I add photos to my group?
At the bottom of the group home page you can upload photos.
How do I leave a group?
Select the group and click 'Leave this group.' - Immigration Assessment
How does the Immigration Assessment work?
Select the option that best describes you in each section of the form. The points calculator will calculate your points total when you click 'Do I Qualify?'.
How do I know if I qualify for Canadian immigration?
If you have 67 points or more, then you likely qualify for Canadian immigration. - Immigration Tracker
How do I insert my information?
From the Resources tab, go to Immigration Tracker, click 'Track a new application', and insert the information that you currently have available. Your application information will be inserted into the LoonLounge Immigration Application Tracker table.
How do I update my immigration information?
Go to 'My Immigration' from your left side bar and click on Update to enter new information.
How do I compare my application's progress with others'?
Click on 'Immigration Tracker' from the Community tab. The LoonLounge Immigration Application Tracker has pulled the information from every member's 'My Immigration' pages and presented the information in a table. - Invites
How do I invite someone to join LoonLounge?
Click on the 'Invite' tab. Indicate the email addresses (separated by commas) and we will send the LoonLounge invitation email. - Job Search
How does the Job Search tool work?
From the Job Search section of the Resources tab, enter your job search criteria and click 'Search'. The system will take a moment to generate the job postings.
Can I apply for jobs online?
You can click on the job postings to see full descriptions of the positions. Most employers give you the option to apply for positions directly online. - Login Problems
When I try to login, I get a message that says that my account is not active.
You have not yet clicked the activation link in your LoonLounge activation email. After you register, LoonLounge sends an activation email to the email address that you registered with. You need to click that link in order to activate your account. If you don't receive that email, perhaps it has gone to your junk/spam. - Messages
How do I send a message?
Click on 'Messages' from your left side bar and then click 'Write a new message'. Type the username of a LoonLounge member and then write your message. This messaging system is for internal LoonLounge use.
What happens when I message someone?
The user will receive an email notification that they have new mail in their LoonLounge inbox. They can check your message by clicking 'Messages' on the left side bar.
Who can message me?
All LoonLounge members can message you unless you block specific users.
How do I block a user from sending me a message?
Go to their Profile page and click on 'Block User' underneath the Profile picture. - Notifications
What does LoonLounge notify me about?
We will notify you when comments are posted for you, when you have new contact requests, new messages; we will also notify you about events, group invitations, and more. To view/edit what notifications you receive, click 'Edit' on your left sidebar and the 'Email notifications' link.
How do I receive email notifications from LoonLounge?

I don't want to receive LoonLounge emails anymore.

How can I register my Organization on LoonLounge?
Click 'Organizations' in the Community tab. Once you submit your registration information, LoonLounge administration will contact you.
How can I show which Organizations I'm interested in?
From the Organization's home page, you can click 'Add to my organizations'. These organizations will appear on your Profile page. - Password
I forgot my password.
Click on 'Lost Password' and indicate your username and email address. We will email you a new password. Once you are logged in again, you can change your password by clicking on 'Edit' in your left sidebar and going to the 'My Login info' tab.
How do I change my password?
Click on 'Edit' in your left sidebar and select the 'My Login info' tab.
Are there any restrictions on LoonLounge passwords?
Your LoonLounge password must be at least 6 characters. - Pictures
How do I upload my Profile photo?
Click on 'Edit' from your left side bar and go to the 'Welcome' tab. There you can upload or change your Profile photo.
How do I upload a photo album?
Click 'Create new album' from the Photo Albums section of your Profile page and follow the instructions.
I can't upload a photo.
If you are having trouble uploading a photo, it may be because:
The photo exceeds 200K. You can check the size in MS operating systems by clicking right and selecting properties from the drop down menu or Get Info on a Mac. Use a photo manipulation package (e.g. Paint) to reduce the file size.
The photo is not a JPEG, JPG, GIF (non-animated), BMP or PNG format file. Use a photo manipulation package (e.g. Paint) to load the photograph and store it in a suitable format.
The filename contains unacceptable characters (spaces or non alphanumeric symbols). Try changing the filename to a simpler one.
How do I delete a photo?
Open your photo album and click on 'Edit'. In the 'Edit Photos' tab, you can select 'Remove this picture'.
How many photos can I upload?
As many as you like! However, each album you create can hold no more than 100 photos.
Who can see my photos?
All LoonLounge members and all LoonLounge visitors. You can make your picture private by selecting the appropriate check box when you upload your photo. Only your contacts will be able to see your private pictures.
How do I make my picture private?
When you upload your picture, check the box that asks whether you want the picture to be private.
Who can see my private pictures?
Only your Contacts can see your private pictures.
How do I comment on a photo?
Select a picture and add your comment to the comment box. - Profile
How do I upload/select my Profile picture?
You can upload your Profile picture during your registration or you can Click on 'Edit' from your left side bar and go to the 'Welcome' tab. There you can upload or change your Profile photo.
How do I edit my profile?
Click 'Edit' on your left sidebar.
How do I delete a Comment on my Profile?
Go to your 'Comments' section and click the delete link next to the comment you wish to erase. - Registration
What do I need to register for LoonLounge?
For your initial registration, all you need to do is create a username and password, and provide some basic information.
Why haven't I received my registration confirmation email yet?
Your confirmation email should arrive to the email address that you registered with only a few moments after registration. If you haven't received it, it may be in your spam/junk mail. If it is not there, please contact LoonLounge administration and tell us your email address, username, and password.
I lost my registration email with my activation link.
Click on 'Lost Password' and click on 'Please send me my activation link again'. We will send you an email with the link.
What browsers does LoonLounge support?
LoonLounge supports Firefox and Safari on Macs and Firefox and Internet Explorer on PCs. - Requests
What happens when I request someone to become a Contact?
The Contact will be added immediately to your Contact list. The user will receive an email to tell them about your request. The next time they log into LoonLounge, they can either allow or dismiss your request.
What happens if I choose to dismiss a Contact request?
You will be removed from that user's Contact list. - Salary Survey
How does the Salary Survey work?
From the Salary Survey section of the Community tab, indicate the job category, area in Canada, and job position you are interested in. The Salary Wizard will create your salary report. - Search
How can I search for someone other than by their name?
From the Member tab, click 'Search' and 'Advanced Search' to search for users by school, country of residence, interests, etc.
How can I filter my search results?
From the Search box on the top of the site, you can filter where you want your search to be performed. - Settings
I would like to deactivate my LoonLounge account.
If you would like to remove your Profile from LoonLounge, click on 'Edit' from your left sidebar. In the 'My Login info' section, click 'Request to deactivate account'. In our efforts to continually improve LoonLounge, we'd appreciate if you would let us know the reason for your deactivation.
