Thank you for welcoming me :) Just would like for you to please guide me trough the process of immigrating to Canada. I would like to visit Canada I have family in Toronto. If I like it can I apply for a work permit while I'm there or do I have to come back to the U.S.A? I'm a U.S. citizen. I'm aware I can be in Canada for 6 months has a visitor and I'm planning to enjoy that time to get to know Canada, which I'm sure it's a great place. Like I said my concern is if I'm able to apply for some sort of work permit or temporally Visa while I'm in Canada, because most likely I will need to work for a bit. I currently work in the Accounting field @ The Hilton. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you! I can email you my resume hopefully you know ppl that work in the hotel industry that you can refer me too. Thanks again ;)

Thank you for the welcome. I'll be in Toronto for a conference 9/24 to 9/28 and so far two emplyers are willing to interview me while I'm there . I have a friend that says I can live with her til I get my own place if I have a job offer do I still have to show 6 months savings to get a work permit ? I haven't sent in any paperwork because the temporary work permit says I need a written offer

They say there is a labour shortage but I'm here, willing to work, with excellent English and a degree and I can't get anyone to hire me! HELP!

Hi Loonie Thank you for the welcome! My husband and I are South Africans living in London,UK at the moment. We are thinking of applying for immigration to Canada as I saw and interview with the Labour Minister of Alberta,Canada. He was telling GMTV here how Alberta would like foreign workers to come there.I got really stuck into the Alberta website and the Canadian immigration website and it seems it will take up to 4 or 5years.Does anyone know an easier way to get to work and live in Canada.South Africa is a beautiful country and we do have family there but there is no financial future for us there.Hope to hear from anyone soon.Lanie

Hi Loonie,
I have not written to you for a long while, how are you doing?
I have a question needed urgent answer from you, because no one can answer me and I really appreciate your correct answer:
- Now I am a translator and teacher of English language, will I need to take IELTS test? (Note: I have a written submission from my past and present employers about my English language ability already, but I do not know that is enough or not?), please advice.
Thank you very much
Best regards,
Pheng Lim

Hi Loonie:
With regards to the new rule about Canadian Experience Class immigration. Would that apply to someone who studied and worked in Canada, but is now back in their hometown? Please let me know, thanks a lot.

Hi Loonie,
Thanks for the info on the meaning of "loonie". I really like the website and it is a good iniative to get immigrants familiar with their new environment. May I suggest that you add a group or section housing or tips on house hunting. I think this is very crucial to all newly arriving immigrants.

Hi Edik,
Thank you for your comment.
There are so many ways that LoonLounge can help potential Canadian immigrants. LoonLounge connects potential immigrants with soon-to-be immigrants and current Canadian residents. By making contacts with other LoonLounge members you can learn about Canadian immigration and settlement from people who have been through the process. These are the people who can best answer your questions.
The Community sections are the place to meet these people and make contacts. The forums are a great place to meet people and learn. There are sections that focus on Canadian immigration, Canadian communities, and work in Canada.
The Resources section is also full of valuable resources for LoonLounge members. A Canada 'Job Search Tool', a whole section 'About Canada', a place to view the progress of members' immigration applications, and more.
We are happy to hear that you are enthusiastic about LoonLounge. We believe that the Canadian immigration and settlement process can be so much easier when people have connections who can help guide them through. We are glad that you are getting involved on LoonLounge and we hope that you will find what you need for your Canadian immigration and settlement.
See you on LoonLounge!

Hi Karina,
Thank you for your comment.

Hi Hashim,
Thank you for your comment.
The government website says that applications going through Cairo take about 3-4 years.
We all wish that it could be faster.
