3 cups rolled oats
3 cups flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 cups shortening
1/2 cup cold water
Preheat oven to 350F. Combine oats,flour,sugar,salt and baking soda in a large bowl. Cut in shortening or work it with blender until dough is manageable. Moisten with cold water. Roll out about 1/4 inch thick using rolled oats on the board to prevent dough from sticking. Cut in square or us a cookie cutter.

Braised Short Ribs
3 lbs. short ribs (cut up)
2 tbsp.vegetable oil
1 cup chopped onion
1cup diced celery
1 cup diced carrots
3 tbsp. flour
1 - 19 oz. can tomatoes
1 tsp. Paprika
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp.oregano
1 tsp. sugar or honey
salt and pepper to taste
In a heavy saucepan, brown ribs in oil for about twenty minutes. Remove from pan, add onions, celery and carrots. Cook until onions are transparent, about 5 minutes. more...

Stir in flour and tomatoes, bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Add ribs and remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
